Our School
The Atlanta Virtual Academy (AVA) Part Time program is a fully accredited online learning environment that is available to middle and high school students of Atlanta Public Schools. Students can choose from among the four core subjects (English, Social Science, Math, Social Science), CTAE (Electives), Health/PE/Personal Fitness, World Language, AP, and Honors courses. Because AVA is a NCAA-approved program, it is ideal for today’s student athlete.
AVA is made up of a team of fully-certified teachers representing each of the core subjects, an Academic Support Specialist, and Counselor all ready to provide a world class education for the 21st century learner. Students enrolled in AVA will engage with a rigorous and relevant curriculum.
Our course offerings are included in a student's full schedule at their home school. Any APS student who receives instruction in person at an APS school may have courses offered by AVA in their schedule for completion of their graduation requirements. These courses can be taken During the Day or Beyond the Day, and AVA also provides advanced courses as an acceleration option for APS middle school students.
For students who need to recover credit(s) due to course failure, AVA also offers credit recovery courses. AVA decreases APS students' course failure rates by providing them with the opportunity to complete lesson and unit recovery, and through these offerings, students are able to master content and pass the course before a failing grade is earned.
AVA courses are accessible 24 hours a day via internet-connected computers and/or mobile devices. It also provides flexibility that is not available in a face-to-face setting.
Our Vision
The Atlanta Virtual Academy (AVA) will provide a welcoming and facilitative learning environment where any and all students have an opportunity to learn and prepare for the workforce and/or post-secondary education.
Our Mission
The Atlanta Virtual Academy (AVA) will provide a rigorous and relevant 21st century education to all 21st century learners that is commensurate with the real-world demands that our students will face post-graduation.
Important points to remember:
-
AVA is a program, not a school. Therefore, students MUST be enrolled in an APS zone school to enroll in AVA Part Time courses
-
AVA families are expected to monitor student progress, productivity and attendance
-
AVA students can participate in extracurricular activities at their home schools
-
AVA students take all state (EOG, EOC) exams at their home schools.
